Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent. The colour in the
church changes to purple and the flower ladies have a well earned break while
we seek to live simply and prepare to make the journey with Jesus through his
temptations and to the cross. Lent is a time of self reflection and a time to
give up things to make more time to pay attention to God through prayer and
Bible study. We are invited to "enter into a holy lent, by self examination and
repentance, by prayer and fasting and self denial; and by reading and
meditating on God's holy word." Revd Michael Boyes led the service of
Ashing and folk from across the parish gathered together to turn away from sin
and be faithful to Christ. |
