Taste Cafe is an opportunity for families with children aged 5 to 11 to get together on the last Sunday afternoon of each month, enjoy cake, play games, hear Bible stories and make craft. There's a lot to do in a short space of time! Once we have all gathered together the children go upstairs for games and craft; parents and carers can join them or stay downstairs to continue chatting, meeting new friends or discussing questions about the Christian faith.
In October our story and craft were on the theme of Harvest. We heard the story of Ruth from the Bible and learnt that God provides for us, and that we can trust Him, even in difficult situations. We then made crafts from seeds and grains. At our latest Taste Cafe in November the theme was Advent; our children's leader Jacquie led a drama story about the Angel Gabriel who visited Mary to tell her she would have a baby named Jesus who would be God's Son. Mary and Joseph had a lot to do to prepare for the birth of baby Jesus and we learned that it is important to prepare our hearts for the Christmas story and the birth of Jesus, as well as doing all the Christmas things we enjoy at home and school. We also played some games together and then made advent candles, star decorations and baby Jesus mangers from shredded wheat!
Taste Cafe has opened twice now, once in October and again in November. For our next event we are joining together on Saturday 22nd December with youth and families to watch a Christmas film in St Mary's Church from 6-8pm. Bring a onesie or duvet and some pennies for tuck!.
We will then open the Taste cafe again on the last Sunday afternoon of every month, starting again on January 26th in the New Year. We meet in Square Corner from 4pm to 5.30pm.
The Taste Cafe is free, great fun and open to all primary school children. We hope you can join us for the next one... See you there!
