Corner. I am pleased to say that the time has flown by with so much done, but still so much more to do.
It has been great to meet people and find out what is going on – a great
team of volunteers run regular coffee mornings and people use the café to
fundraise for all sorts of great charities. A group of young people have started
an after school café and it is great to support them and develop the links
with young people. I hope you enjoyed the article from the work experience
students in September’s Spotlight. They spent a week working from Square
Corner and engaging with the local community.
On the practical side the six months has involved looking at Square Corner
and planning how we can improve the buildings appearance and fabric to
make it more appealing to visitors in preparation for our big refurbishment.
However, I have been able to make a few improvements such as making the
kitchen a bit more hygienic, improving the safety of the electrics, repainting
the shop front, introducing papers and magazines in the café and installing
phones in the youth work offices and WiFi throughout the building!
I am also part of lots of discussions clarifying what our objectives are, what
activities we should develop and how do we get more involved with the local
community and support it? Although some of these new ideas will have to
wait until we have completed the planned refurbishment I am trying to get
Square Corner open every day. So please do keep an eye on Spotlight and the
notices in Square Corner as to the actual times and pop in for a tea or coffee
– plus a biscuit, read the paper or a magazine, browse the books for sale or
even use the free WiFi! I would also like to hear your ideas!
I will give you update every now and then, but in the mean time please come
